In the21st century, the most advanced management measure, six-sigma, has been used in most of the top500enterprises in the world. Since2001, with the popularity of the books illustrating GE and the legend of Welch, six-sigma has been winning a lot of attention and a number of entrepreneurs have been trying to explore and analyze the success secret of GE and legend of Welch. Since then, Chinese entrepreneurs have been researching and studying and then started to apply six-sigma, the management measure which is proven almost perfect and spotless. S Institute is a famous company producing military products in China with a long history of nearly seven decades.Traditional management measure and management habits as well as enterprise culture of S institute feature great inertia, which cannot meet the development requirement of S Institute. To realize the strategic target—domestically great and globally first-class, management revolution for S institute is necessary and urgent. S institute uses Six-sigma for the management revolution. In the application process of six-sigma, several typical and critical cases had been selected for the trial initially. After the successful trial, six-sigma management measure was broadly and comprehensively applied in the institute. The case, Shortening the Period of Antenna Near Field Adjustment for XXXD Radar by Using Six-sigma, was one of the trial projects. This project adopted six-sigma management measure DMAIC meaning definition, measurement, analysis, improvement and control to try to analyze and reason the cause of long time of the antenna near field test/adjustment and then find an effective solution. The project, Shortening the Period of Antenna Near Field Adjustment for XXXD Radar by Using Six-sigma, was a successful project, which got the rooted reason of the problem and also found an ideal way to shorten the near field antenna test period from259days to120days. The optimized work flow of the antenna near field test for XXXD radar was introduced to other radars, which was proven effective. With the successful completion of the trial projects, the decision-making layer attached great importance to six-sigma application and more employees joined the six-sigma management. With the deepening of six-sigma management application, economic benefits and sustained improvement are enjoyed by S institute. To speak more profoundly, six-sigma can help a company set up a kind of mindset of pursuing sustained improvement, fostering enterprise culture and changing the enterprise habits, which will ultimately improve the core competitiveness of S Institute.
