Laser gyro is an ideal component for strap-down inertial navigation system. It is being studied by many countries all over the world. As comparing with those developed countries, the technology of laser gyro in our country is far behind. So, it’s important to use some new techniques in developing laser gyro. In this paper, FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) are used in the design of digital designed laser gyro.This paper is based on the working principle of the laser gyro. It then study some characteristics of the laser gyro, including the error characteristics, the latchup effort, the dither bias technique, and the small jitter frequency stabilization method. Simulink is used to set up the model of the laser gyro system and to simulate and anlysis the working characteristics of the laser gyro. It build a jitter control system and a optical control system of the laser gyro in the FPGA. So mechanical jitter control method and the resonator optical control method of the laser gyro is realized. In FPGA, high-speed sampling filter and unusual data handling is used to fulfill the demodulation of the pulse number. The unusual data handling also improve the reliability of the laser gyro. Finally, UART serial communication is used in the FPGA to realize the data transmission of the laser gyro and in the parameter debuging.The digital laser gyro designed in this paper has tested according to the GJB2427-95standard. The test results show that the digital laser gyro have obvious advantages over the analog ring laser gyro.
