It becomes the direction of network development to construct an expansive,easily manageable and maintainable virtual private network (VPN) network while theenterprise’ network scope gets larger and larger. Traditional technologies to constructVPN cannot meet the requirement of applications. According to the research on theseproblems, a technical solution is proposed based on Multiprotocol Label Switching(MPLS) and BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) in this dissertation. Related details andoptimizing strategies are also discussed.The main contents are briefly introduced as follows.Firstly, the deficiency of traditional VPN technologies is analyzed from differentaspects including expansion, manageability, reliability and safety. Then, the technicalsolution based on MPLS and BGP is described. Some related details, such as theprinciple of MPLS label distribution, the process of MPLS tunnel’s data encapsulationand the principle of virtual routing and forwarding (VRF), are described. Theprocesses to resolve the problems in traditional VPN including the studying, isolation,revocation and forwarding of private network route among users’ websites, are alsoanalyzed in detail. The solution to the problems fully indicates the validity of theproposed scheme.Secondly, an improved resolute is proposed for a specific case using traditionalVPN. In order to ensure the improved implementation of the resolution, the naming ofequipment, IP website and BGP route are assigned and designed in detail. Then, theresolution is implemented and the performance is evaluated. Practice has proved thatVPN network based on MPLS and BGP technique is better than that based ontraditional VPN technique in expansion, practicability, manageability and safety. Italso has proved that VPN network based on MPLS and BGP technique is stable,reliable and safe.Finally, some characteristics of VPN network based on MPLS and BGPtechnique are summarized and the reasons of flattening during the process of networkconstruction are analyzed. To the problem of conflict between the flatteningcharacteristics of network construction and the layering idea of the enterprises’network design, two optimized resolutions suitable for different networkenvironments are proposed. The optimized resolutions are easily realized only if slightly change to the existing network construction. The proposed resolutions canfurther expand the scope of application for VPN based on MPLS and BGP technique.
