Huashang Media Group is the only one integrated media group with several inter-regional newspaper offices in China. In the past two years, due to the arising of the new media, China has witnessed a decrease in the operating revenue of the newspapers as well as its circulation. Since2012, Huashang Media Group has attempted to restructure the business process of newspaper section. To cut the human cost and enhance product competitiveness, the Group set up a feeds center supplying the formed news pages of the national and international news for other newspapers. The process reengineering of newspaper section has obtained some achievements, but it also sparks controversy within the Group.This thesis makes a study on the development and challenges of Huashang Media Group as well as that of China’s newspaper industry, and finds out the Group’s problems in its structure and production process. Based on the use of case study, document research, comparative study and other research methods, this thesis analyzes the achievements and problems of process reengineering of newspaper section in the Group. Finally, it comes to a conclusion that the process reengineering conforms to the needs of strategic transformation for Huashang Media Group.By using theories of organizational structure and organizational change and knowledge of business process management and restructuring theory, this thesis researches on the direction and implementation for the next step of process reengineering. Research suggests that there are obvious problems in Huashang Media Group, such as organizational overlapping and overstaffing. And these problems have hindered the Group’s next strategic transformation. Therefore, it should be reorganized into a matrix business processes. This thesis provides the specific measures for implementation, analyzes the risks, costs and revenues, and finally puts forward the necessary guarantees for the process reengineering.
