The image-based virtual reality technique, a kind of virtual reality technique, is developing rapidly recently. Based on the real scenery photos, the technique can show visualized3D sceneries by the processing of certain software, and has been widely used in displaying geographic location, tourism, e-commerce, education, etc.The thesis briefly introduced the image-based panorama technique and its developments, and then analyzed the characteristics and application fields of the technique. On this basis, the thesis introduced the tools, methods and software of Jietu-method, which is a set of techniques on capturing the panorama and designing the image-based virtual reality system. In the remainder of the thesis, it dwelt on the whole process for utilizing Jietu-method to design and develop image-based virtual reality campus system of Changzhou Institute of Engineering Technology. Throughout the whole process of designing the image-based virtual reality system, the key is to capture the panoramic images, and the core is to design the image-based virtual reality system.The whole process for utilizing Jietu-method to design and develop image-based virtual reality system includes key points as follows:in the phase of capturing the panorama, the first is to analyze the light of scene and make a photo-taking plan, the second is to get data of photos after taking photos for the scene, and the last is to join together the photos to get a panorama in the software; in the phase of designing the image-based virtual reality system, the first is to analyze the needs of customer, the second is to design the interface and framework of the system according to the results of analysis, and the last is to design the navigation subsystem and control subsystem to get the interface and export the system in the software.The thesis studied the image-based virtual reality technique and the author of the thesis developed the image-based reality campus system for Changzhou Institute of Engineering Technology, wihch is of high quality, has reasonable navigation design and concise interface, and does not require the users to visit the real campus, only by visiting the system can they see the real campus and feel a strong sense of virtual reality view.
