The virtual reality system based on image, with small amount of data, independent of the scene calculation complexity and rendering quality of photo level, is a hot-topic in the virtual reality research area. It can get the real scene images and real-time interactive speed, and the vision effect is similar with reality. It can be widely used in the virtual tour, entertainment, virtual training and the3d display of building and venue and so on.This paper discussed the frame structure and implementation method of the virtual reality system which is based on image. And the emphasis study is about the core algorithm on image mosaic and image roaming which is organized around the construction process of panorama and Virtual Panorama Space. Mainly includes the following aspects:Research and practice the general method of the building of the virtual scene from data acquisition to the produce of the Virtual Panorama Space, and initially formed a set which can be used for the development of industry standard; Through the equation development, it adopted a new cylindrical projection algorithm to parameters optimization on the traditional algorithm, Experiments show improved projection algorithm are more efficient; Aimed at the matching error and ghost problems in the panoramic mosaic, this paper puts forward the improved algorithm which is based on SIFT, by making use of the slope clustering and a improved fusion algorithm which is based on feature point, combined the best suture line and multi-resolution method. Experiments proved that the improved algorithm which can improve the precision of matching algorithm at the same time can effectively remove the ghosting and promote the fusion image quality.Finally, the theory of building and roaming of Virtual Panorama Space is studied, and focus on optimizing the algorithm of scheduling, forecasting and projection algorithm of viewpoint roaming, created a roaming system based on single viewpoint. And combined with our school’s reality, designed and implemented the panoramic roaming system which is based on the Lanzhou Jiaotong University.
