Founded by Fujian daily group in October1,1997, S newspaper is the first metropolis newspaper. Since the establishment, S newspaper hadrapid growthwithin just a few years and surpasses its major competitors on marketposition, circulation, advertising revenue, economic benefits and other indicators.After2011, newspapers appeared to start having negative growth all nationwide. The new media environment creates new challenges for the newspaper managements, especially for the automobile section.Starting from analyzing the macro environment and the Quanzhou newspaper competitive environment, this article firstly analyzed the challenges that S newspaper are facing, found out S newspaper’s competitive advantages and also explore the how does S newspaper gradually losing its core competence by comparing with the new media’s advantages and current competitors’competitions.Under the new media environment, newspaper walking the road of its own development means that the newspaper to fully learn and take advantage of new media at the same time, more to actively develop its traditional superiority, expand the media influence and credibility, attract the readers’ attention, achieve with more profit pattern.The author applied the "value chain" theory on analyzing S newspaper’s current competitive environment and the core competence, proposed the model andmethods of constructing the core competence. The author tried to use the theory of integrated marketing to analyze and find out the solutions of raising the competence base on putting customers’ practical needs on center, hoping to provide the suggestions to any other regional metropolis newspapers which are facing same problem as S newspaper.
