With the rapid development of the Mobile Application market, mobile Internet andmobile consumer behavior of college students has changed, providing mobile library serviceshas become an inevitable trend of the Academic Library. In the last two years, dozens ofAcademic Libraries have purchased Mobile Library Systems. These Mobile Library Systems’realizing modes such as WAP websites and Native Apps are separately based on WAPtechnology and smart phone OS. These WAP websites are quite different from Native Apps ininterface layouts, and the difference increases users’ learning cost and is a barrier forpromoting Mobile Library Service. The Native Apps only adapt to mobile phones withAndroid and iOS, which can’t meet the demands from other mobile phone users.Theemergence and development of the HTML5standard provides a new way for the developmentof the Mobile Library System. Based on the HTML5standard and Sencha Touch technology,Native App resembled Web App can be made. What’s more, these Web Apps can be easilycompiled and packaged into Native Apps which can meet for various Mobile OperationSystems’ requirements. Thus, different users with different smart phone OS will have anear-unanimous access to the Mobile Library service.According to the survey of Academic Library user needs, this article aims at designingand implementing a universal Academic Mobile Library System based on Web App, NativeApp&WAP sites, which is independent of smart phone OS, using Sencha Touch and WAP2.0technology. Currently, some of the system features have been achieved, such as the PhoneNumber Binding, Bibliographic Queries, Consultation Feedback, Mobile Reading and so on.Specific research works are as follows:(1) The analysis of users’ requirements of Academic Mobile Library Systems. The phoneusers’demands of the Mobile Library Services are studied through a questionnaire survey, including the user’s mobile phone usage, the mobile Internet status and theirs demands of theMobile Library service models and service functions.(2) Academic Mobile Library System’s design. An overall architecture of AcademicMobile Library System is constructed, which is independent of smart phone OS&platforms, and can be accessed through WAP sites, Web App and Native App. Dividing the system intoWeb App, Native App and WAP sites of three subsystems, it completes the design of SystemDevelopment Framework, Function Modules, Database and Client Interface.(3) Academic Mobile Library System’s development and implementation. Relatedtechnologies of Mobile Library System development are studied, including HTML5, SenchaTouch, WAP technology and ThinkPHP Framework and so on. Some functions of the3subsystems have been achieved, including technical difficulties such as the realization of Adaptive Function and Cross-border Communication, as well as the realization of the MobileLibrary functions such as Bibliographic Queries, Bulitin Guide, Cousultion and Feedback andso on.The research in this paper is mainly beneficial to the exploration for developingUniversal Academic Mobile Library System. The research results can provide decisionsupports for the Academic Library when choosing Mobile Library Systems, and provide newtechnology ideas for Library Mobile Application development. It has a certain theoretical andpractical value.
