Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi first proposed the flow theory in1975: flow experience refers toan unique enjoyable experience when people get fully engaged in an activity, people will applytheir full attention to the activity for a short time, forget time, forget the place, and reach thepoint of truthful selflessness. When Players immersed in a game, they also can enter the flowexperience. Researching in how to allow players to enter the state of flow experience hasimportant significance.Based the flow theory, this paper explored how to enhance the game flow experience, fromthe design angle. This article examines in three dimensions: first, the player-centered design ofDynamic Difficulty Adjustment. Based on the principle of balancing challenge and skills,presented passive difficulty adjust design methods. On the second, the incitement design in game.Researched the effect of incentives on the game flow experience, and focused upon the analysisof the achievement system design methods. Third, the Gameplay design for flow experience.Analyzed the impact of Gameplay on the flow experience, and proposed Gameplay designprinciples.
