Mo Yan’s winning of the Noble literature prize was one of the most importantcultural news in2012and caught tremendous attention inside and outside China. Thisthesis was focused on reports of four English-speaking countries’ main streamnewspapers about Mo Yan, the first Chinese national who won2012Nobel literaturePrize. Based on framing theory, the author used content analysis and text analysis tounderstand the way foreign newspaper do reports related to culture and literature. The study found that when foreign journalists were doing reports about Mo Yan,they tended to link it with some other topics, such as political topics or even totallypoliticize the entire story. The thesis also explored that the images of Mo Yan andChina are both very stereotyped. And as always, conflicts were filled in the articlesthrough demonstration of opposite voices. According to the Text analysis, the thesissummarized at least five characteristics while reporting Mo Yan. What’s more, theauthor analyzed reporting styles for each of these four countries.
