| The world today had walked into the image reading age. As people’s life pace increasingly fast, Reader abandoned the elaborate and abstract text and choose intuitive visual information. Compared with word news or broadcast and television news, news image-photo communication is more capable of meeting the needs of readers and the development of our times. The semiotic theory concerning the production and convey of meaning, is very important for the research of news image-photo.The news image-photo from the semiotic perspective, is no longer a copy symbol but a cultural symbol of characterization. This paper is divided into five parts.First, This paper clarified the concept of news image-photo, and defined the news image-photo symbol by three basic concepts of semiotics:And it proposed the four communication characteristics of news photo-image. This answered the issue that "what is it " of news photo-image symbol.Based on this, we distinguished four forms of news photo-image communication statically. Which visual symbols including "icon,index symbol""metaphor, metonymy, symbol" and "symbolic symbol" three levels from low to high. And the non-visual symbols are text description. This answers the question the news photo-image symbol "how to express the meaning", at the same time corresponded with the communication content research.Next, it placed news photo-image on the dynamic relations between both sides of communication.
