As the rapid developments of photoelectric information technology and multimedia technology, the requirement of the video image transmission technology has been increasing gradually. While the traditional video image transmission technology is bad at transmission bandwidth, data rate and protecting of the data in the transmitting procedure, which can not satisfy the application requires very well.To solve this problem, this paper provides a design of the real-time video encryption and transmission combined with digital image scrambling technology and Gigabit Ethernet technology. The design, with FPGA chip as main controller, accomplishes real-time acquisition of the PAL video signal and encryption of the video data. The design also realizes the transmission of the encrypted data to the host computer. Its main functions are the acquisition of video signal, the processing of the image data and high speed transmission of data.This paper realizes the real-time video image encryption and transmission detailed process from the hardware and software aspects. On the hardware side, it makes a custom Nios II processor system, selects the chips and designs the interface circuit to complete the construction of hardware environment. On the software side, it mainly designs the module of video image acquisition, the module of image encryption, the image data packet module and the gigabit network transmission module. Furthermore, the programming of the modules has been accomplished. This paper realize the generation of the software environment by the module design and the code programming. Finally the system has been operated and tested the system on the software and hardware platform. The experiment results show that the system has met the design requirements of the real-time video image encryption and transmission.
