With the great development of China’s informationization, many newsorganizations have built up information-processing systems which contains the entireeditorial process. Journalists can conveniently complete the whole publishingprocedure by using computers and internet. With the rapid growth of the newsbusiness, the news industry puts forward more and more requirements on IT systems.The society demands faster, real-time and multifaceted news reports.However,frontline journalists are often unable to work quickly and efficiently due to time, space,equipment, networks, and some other constraints.With reference to the current system and analysis of the mobile devices, thispaper designs and implements a multi-platform news gathering and editing systembased on the MVC pattern in order to improve the inadequacies of the current system.Adopting waterfall model, the system enables the view platform, control and modelseparation by applying the MVC pattern. It uses Webservice to supply services tovarious platforms so that each one just needs to complete their own view design.According to the practical workflow of news gathering and editing, the platform hasrealized the function of news’ compiling, auditing, modifying and releasing. Also, thesystem uses a multimedia database to aid the multimedia file processing. By analyzingthe news gathering and editing workflow, it offers a comprehensive design of authorityprofiles.The innovations of the multi-platform news gathering and editing system basedon the MVC pattern include the following three points:(1) The system adopts MVC pattern to realize news editing system, supportvirtual newsroom, and transmit data by using industry standard TCP/IP protocol,implementing remote office and mobile office. Developing relative applications on theAndroid platform can greatly enhance the efficient processing of breaking news andnews under limited network environment.(2) Advanced, flexible editorial workflow makes intuitive organization structuresettings of the department and flexible and complete permission settings becomingtrue; and using multi-privileged design lets the user can configure permissions freelyaccording to their demands.(3) Using the Webservice to provide services to each platform and setting upmulti-platform news editorial system makes the model layer transparent for each platform. It also increased the safety and the integrity of the platform system as wellas facilitating the expansion of the platforms to achieve the effect of multipleplatforms.Test results show that the platform can fulfill the current demands of reporters.Itsmulti-platform design also provides the possibility to gather news by phone or tabletin outlying areas or locations where no networks are available. Compared totraditional news gathering systems, a multi-platform news gathering system is notonly more scalable but also more sophisticated.
