Theauthor of this paper takes the combining method of quantitative researchand qualitative research, make code and quantitative the extracted272news reports about Chinese minorities, and then do qualitative analysisaccording to the results based on statistical data.I hope to have an in-depthpresentation of reports on minorities in China in Lianhe Zaobao ofSingapore, and expect to find its status and characteristics on the ethnicgroup identity of Chinese minorities.Through the research, I concludes the following three findings:1. Asthe Overseas Chinese media representatives, Singapore’s Lianhe Zaobaohas formed a relatively objective, neutral style when reported on Chinese minorities, is neither different from the Western media of demonizingChina nor the Chinese media’s mouthpiece tendency.2. The formationof ethnic group identity is not simply a political problem, and the massmedia plays a crucial role in the formation of ethnic group identity.3. Themass media for external communication should establish objective andimpartial view of ethnic group identity, promote the development of ethnicgroup identity in a positive direction, and create a harmony and commonprosperity of national environment.
