Postal service has always attached great importance to the network building. However, problems of the management of postal network continue to occur with the increase of post offices. Currently the management of postal network is rather extensive. The "bottom-up" principle based procedure of the network information submission and irrational procedure of business income gathering bring about many problems including untimely information feedback, inappropriate site selection, and a lack of overall solution to problems concerning network resources, business statistical analysis, site selection, etc.The paper introduces GIS to study the management of postal network resources, analyze its concrete and detailed service need, explore key factors affecting site selection. It aims at developing a set of software and designing a simple feasible algorithm for site selection. By using the software, manager could clearly see the information about a post office map, network resources, clients, business statistical analysis, auxiliary analysis of site selection, etc. and make decisions wiser. The paper involves some methods and theories of postal network management and site selection, analysis of application coverage and merits and demerits in particular. It proposes an effective avenue of scientific management of postal network resources, that is, spatialization of network resources based on GIS.On the basis of research on Hunan postal enterprises’background information and current conditions both at home and abroad, it proposes architecture WEBGIS based on AJAX. The research accomplishes the interoperation of AJAX and GIS server. Through object XMLHttpRequest of AJAX service ports could be monitored. Through JavaScript code the website pictures and parts of pages could be substitute selectively. All of above bring better online experiences to users since it not only reduces the traffic but also improves efficiency of pages addressing. At the same time the paper brings forward using AHP method to achieve algorithm for site selection, that is, choosing four factors including regional total population, regional GDP, the number of competitors, and minimum site distance, weighing by software yaahp, regarding GIS as a platform for site selection and finally the best choice of site will be calculated and displayed on the map.Multi-functions such as map enquiry, information management, and auxiliary analysis of site selection can be realized through the mode of B/S. Officers of departments at provincial, municipal and prefectural levels can log on the system as operators and search information, input and modify data. Practice shows that GIS could provide the visual interaction with users, enabling users capture useful information via the visual results. It solves problems brought about by scattered systems, mixed information and irrational decision making. The auxiliary analysis of postal service site selection adopting algorithm for site selection based on AHP can generate more economic profit. The application of the system has an obvious good effect as it achieves visualized search and systematic and scientific management of postal network resources which improves auxiliary management of post network.
