Teaching Website is a platform as assistant of teaching activity. It is based on traditional web application. As a product of web development, AJAX will improve the original system on user experience and performance.AJAX is a combination of a bundle of technologies, some of which are not the newest, however, the new methods of using these technologies bring them new vitalities. After Google shown the world the killer application, Gmail, more and more new web applications are using AJAX.Firstly, in this thesis we start from the origination of web technology, analyze what AJAX could bring for traditional web application and the magic power it has. Then we explain the most important components and the core principles of AJAX, illustrate basic AJAX framework and basis of AJAX data communication. Comparing the most popular AJAX framework, Dojo is used to implement all the examples mentioned in the thesis.Secondly, we give several most useful and important design patterns of AJAX. In application examples we explain how to use these patterns to solve practical problems of teaching system. Further more, the relative applications of those patterns with AJAX are discussed. This section is the key point of the whole thesis.Finally, AJAX performance and security issues, which matter much in teaching system, are argued.Practical teaching process informed AJAX application in Teaching Website outperforms initial system on aspects of user experience and performance.
