As the enterprise data centers are increasingly demanding high speed for dataaccessing, separated storage network and ethernet make the layout of the data centers morecomplicated, management costs increased. Therefore, enterprises urgently need ahigh-speed unified network architecture. Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) makes it to bea reality. Research the network data transfer controller is an important prerequisite fordeploying FCoE network. SOC is easy to develop, IP cores have the feature of reusability,reliability, scalability. It is an important method for large-scale complex digital systemdesigning. The topic is based on the SOC design method.Targeted at the requirements for the servers to access high-speed data network,combined with the system-on-chip、ethernet、storage network and other technology, researchthe network data transfer controller separately from the perspective of hardware architectureand software architecture. According to the functional model of the high-speed datatransmission and FCoE protocols, design a scalable on-chip system. Make a depth study ofthe network data stream flowing in the transfer controller. At the same time, introduce thekey IP cores in the system, such as MAC layer IP core, PLB_PCI-Express bridge IP coreand MicroBlaze embedded processor, etc. Design registers, Programme for the SOC basedon the micro kernel and optimization design. Make use of FPGA and ML605, the networkdata transfer controller realized.The network data transfer controller has the basic functions for data transmission aswell as a condition applied to FCoE storage adapter. After analysis the experimental testresults, the optimization method for the transmission speed has been proposed. The researchof the high-speed network data transfer controller is not only for large-scale high-speednetwork data transmission, but also lay a foundation for FCoE storage network interfacecontroller.
