In the process of the Internet technology popularization, there are many problems tobe solved, one of the most prominent problem is to store vast amounts of data. The surgeof network data lead to the harder and harder task of the storage device in current networkserver, the concept of "external" storage emerged. Storage area network (SAN) is designedas an "external" storage technology. SAN is a high-speed network supported by FibreChannel (FC), SAN can provide efficient and secure data transmission between acomputer and storage systems. However, due to its high network costs, the FC protocoldefined by the ANSI with high scalability, make the popularity of SAN been hampered.Fortunately, the emergence of Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) give a good solution tothis problem. The FCoE integrate FC network and enhanced Ethernet physicaltransmission together to form an integration network, which can reduce investment costsand simplify network management. FCoE has increased the flexibility of SAN networking,making SAN network is no longer a point-to-point connections in the traditional sense.But this will lead the FC switch can no longer effectively control each network node.In order to solve the confidence crisis of FC switch in SAN network, a solution appliedon FCoE edge network equipment need to be raised urgently. FIP Snooping is such asolution, which can run on the Transit switches, through examination of MAC address todefine the identity of the both sides of send and receive packets, to ensure that only FCoEpackets sent by ENode with successful FLOGI can be forwarded to SAN Network throughthe Transit switch. FIP Snooping provide that FCF packets can only be sent to ENode, whileENode packets can only be sent to the FCF. FIP Snooping makes the more ENode have theaccess to SAN networks through the Transit switch, while ensuring that the access andcommunication of each ENode can be effectively controlled by FC switches, thus ensure thesecurity of SAN network on the basis of maintaining SAN networking flexibility.The FIP Snooping research has important theoretical and practical value. The designand implementation of FIP Snooping solutions for mass storage has a very importantsignificance. Through the function of FIP Snooping, FCoE can be more perfect and theInternet can develop more rapidly.
