Innovations in Internet today are adapted at tremendous speed, and we have advancedto the post-PC era, where electronics such as embedded devices and PC, aredeveloping towards miniaturization, intelligence, convenience, and networking. Withthe continuous development of computer technology and communication electronicstechnology, it is an increasing need for internet connection between electronics andterminal devices. Currently, Ethernet is the most widely used in network connectionand data transmission technology, and it gradually moves from fast Ethernet toGigabit Ethernet. It not only becomes a leader of desktop internet, but also becomes agood backbone technology choice of LAN connection. With the characteristics of lowcost, low power, high reliability and compatibility, USB interface proves to bemainstream interface in electronic products, such as individual PC and embeddeddevices. However, most embedded devices have USB interface, but lack of Ethernetinterface. Therefore, if electronics want to access Ethernet for data sharing andinformation transmission, it is a great desire for a conversion interface between USBand Ethernet to guarantee data conversion rate for Ethernet connection. Our paper proposed a USB2.0to Gigabit Ethernet conversion interface system whichcan deal with the pressing needs of Ethernet connection for USB-only electronics. Weemployed AX88178A product by ASIX as main control chip in our system, and usedAT93C66as EEPROM and USB as power supply. Then, we realized transformationbetween USB2.0and Ethernet connection on the basis of four-layer PCB. In the laterstage of testing phase, we adopted Chariot from Ganymede Software to test networkbandwidth, which measures the conversion rate from the USB2.0interface to gigabitEthernet interface. We made use of two PC equipped with gigabit Ethernet for testingand set up experimental and control groups to measure the unidirectional andbidirectional bandwidth of data transmission. When testing, the big and small packetsmeasurement are used for data size. Finally it is proved that the big packetmeasurement is correct. For error reduction, we adopted the average measurement to test, and finally put all the bandwidths to overlay, and then measured the totalbandwidth of the system. The final results show that our USB2.0to Gigabit Ethernetconversion interface has good performance and reliability of data transmission, whichachieves design expectations. It also can provide a favourable platform for upgradingUSB3.0and10-gigabit Ethernet.
