The major features of field programmable analog array (FPAA) are short development cycle, lowcost, little risk and reconfigurability, which make it has a wide application prospect in industrialautomation, remote communication and so on. With the development of digital-analog hybridintegrated circuit and portable devices, analog integrated circuit is asked to meet the requirements ofdigital circuit technology as far as possible with low power consumption. Switched current, which isfully compatible with digital CMOS technology, has great potential in low voltage low powersituation. So it is suitable for low power FPAA design.This paper describes the basic principle and the present research of FPAA. The design of lowpower FPAA based on switched current technology some typical circuits are studied.The maincontents are as follows:(1) A FPAA based on switched current was designed, and the interconnection network andconfigurable analog block (CAB) were introduced in detail. Configurable analog block, whichincluded a programmable feedback stage, output stage and memory circuit, could realize thereconstruction of different functions and the adjustment of circuit parameters. Then the principle ofeach circuit in CAB was illustrated, and circuits’ performances were analysised through simulationexperiment. The switched current memory circuit was optimized using genetic algorithm, and theoptimal results were verified by simulation experiment.(2) Several typical examples of application were designed. The reconstruction of all examplecircuits on FPAA was proposed.The simulation model based on fine-grained MOS level wasconstructed in the PSPICE software. In order to verify and evaluate the performance of designedFPAA, five examples were realized in a3×2array. Through the simulation experiments, theperformance parameters of circuits realized by FPAA are obtained. Compared with the existingswitched current FPAA, we can realize the superiority of proposed FPAA in function, supply voltage,programmability, power consumption and circuit performance.The configurable analog block isfabricated, and the effectiveness of designed circuit in practical applications are analyzed.
