FPAA(Field programmable analog arrays) is a new type IC emerging in recent years. Field programmable is the biggest merit compared to other analog IC, that is, the user can programme the device to obtain the required circuit by configure the internal connections and components'parameters of the device. All of the circuit design, debug and prototype production, useing FPAA device and the matching software to design analog circuits can be easy as useing FPGA to design digital circuits. From its inception, IMP, Motorola, Lattice, FAS and other foreign companies launch their products line to FPAA, but there is few of research of FPAA in China, so we have to do some research in this regard.The target of this research project is how to develop a FPAA chip based on switched capacitor technology. In the past two years, our FPAA developing team have done this research from the research background , actuality and the reference papers and patents, specifically as follows:1. Project preparation, including the works of researching the FPAA's background and actuality, studying the FPAA's reference literature and patents, and learning the FPAA's popular techniques in recent years.2. Project planning, formulate the design objectives, divide the chip to digital and analog two parts, use schematic circuit input method to design analog circuit, and use Verilog HDL to design digital circuit.3. Modules design, so as to complete the sub-modules'design and simulation, include analog and digital modles.4. Mixed-simulation, it can start the whole chip's digital-analog mixed-simulation after the sub-modules'simulation.5. Layout design, include the digital and analog parts'layout design and the whole chip's layout design.After nearly two years of effort, the FPAA chip design has been achieved. By programming the chip can be configured as a filter, comparator, integrator, divider, SAR-ADC, arbitrary periodic waveform generator and voltage controlled variable gain stage more than 10 kinds of function. This is a beneficial exploiture on FPAA for our country.
