Composite materials have many incomparable advantages that traditional materialsdon’t have, so they are widely used in the aviation field, especially in large aircraftmanufacturing area. Fiber placement technology which is an important process method incomposite molding process, has been widely used. Fiber placement machine is the keyequipment of the process, which is the key support in improving the automation ofprocessing the composite materials in aviation industry. Tension control system is anessential part of the fiber placement, which directly affect the quality of products.This paper develops a closed-loop tension control system which uses DSP as thecontrol unit, tension brake and low-friction cylinder as the execution unit, lineardisplacement transducer as the feedback unit, tension sensor as the detection unit. Thispaper uses master-slave control mode to build an integral AFP tension control systemwhich uses the PC as the master computer, DSP as slave computer.Firstly, the mechanical structure of the tension control system is designed, at thesame time the parts and assembly drawings of the tensioner is drawn and the processingand assembly of mechanical system is accomplished. According to the proposed overallscheme, Matlab is used to build the model of the control system. The stability and thesteady error of the system are obtained through theoretical analysis and simulation, whilethe dynamic characteristics of the system after introducing the PID control is studiedfurther more.Secondly, the software and hardware of the control system is designed based on themechanical structure. Hardware part mainly designs hardware circuit for the controlsystem with DSP as the core, including the essential circuit of DSP, the communicationmodel, the AD model, the DA model, photoelectric isolation and the waveform shapingcircuit etc. As for the software, with the idea of model-program, the program of the DSPis compiled with the internal interrupt of the DSP, which improves the flexibility andreadability of the program to a great extent. In addition, PC controlling software isdeveloped to send down the control parameters and control commands, especially toillustrate the feedback of linear displacement sensor and the tension of tension sensor inthe form of curve.Finally, the experimental platform of tension control system is built, on which alarge number of steady-state and dynamic tests are finished. Experimental results showthat the tension control system can export stable tension under various disturbances andthe max value of the fluctuations of the tension is1.9N, contenting the expected goal ofthis topic on the whole.
