The ancient ruins is extremely important information of study ancient historyandculture, science and technology.However, because the passage of time and theerosion of wind and rain, A lot of ancient ruins had been disappeared or are sufferingconsiderable damage. Traditional protection of ancient ruins mainly by means ofartificial Surveying and Mapping composition, It takes a lot of labour power andmaterial resources, and it is likely to damage the ancient ruins in the protection process.With the computer continuous development of high-tech and the emergence of virtualreality technology, it provides the possibility for the ancient ruins of digital protection. Atpresent, The technology of Virtual Reality is the most widely used digital field, it is asimulation to the real world and the idea of the scene, and the user can real-timeinteraction with the simulation environment. Using virtual reality technology can achievethe restoration of the ancient ruins, simulation and save as much as possible to reproducethe ancient ruins and its unique artistic charm and cultural information for China’s ancientruins spread rapidly worldwide and continue to carry forward may provide, at the sametime enhance the various ethnic groups to China’s historical and cultural identity.The ancient city wall of the Ming Dynasty (Changle Gate section) and virtual palacecomplex digitized display and interaction as application background, we has proposed amethod of3DMAX modeling techniques, the VC programming techniquesand andOpenGL on the with each other on basis of Changle Gate walls of fieldwork andChina’s ancient architectural structure analysis,is the model of Changle door walls andvirtual palace complex has been built on3DMAX three-dimensional software,then,export3DS format file, has been read and with OpenGL and VC platform.To carry out specifictasks as follows:(1) We site visits to Changle Gate walls, to analyse as well as China’s ancientarchitectural structure, mainly using OpenGL and3DMAX modeling software, combiningthe advantages of both,To build the model of the Ming City Wall (Changle Gate section)and the palace complex,.(2) How to fast reproduce of the large-scale ancient buildings, is the focus of thisstudy. We study a variety of modeling methods of virtual scenes, using a combination ofgeometric modeling and image modeling modeling method, and propose a method togenerate quickly a large-scale ancient architecture, the method by Billboard as modelcarrier, to rotate viewpoint in OpenGL platform, to achieve rapid display of large ancientarchitecture. To design three modules for virtual scene, including the ancient architecture blocks, the environmental module and the feature modules, the ancientarchitecture module create with3DMAX modeling software, the environment module addto the blue sky, white clouds and ground with skybox for scene in OpenGL, the featuremodule add to trees and traders, and puts forward a method to optimize the scene withLOD technology, reasonable texturing techniques and the Billboard technology, and bycomparison of the data, has been proved the effectiveness and superiority of the method.(3) To develop the virtual scene of ancient ruins generation and interaction systemsbased open graphics engine, to read redraw and three-dimensional display the ancientarchitecture model in OpenGL, and add to light and texture for the scene; to achieve thevirtual scene three-dimensional observation through viewpoint transformation, modeltransformation, projection transformation and viewport transformation, to test thecorresponding transformation function in OpenGL and determine the correctthree-dimensional observation of the parameter values.(4) To analyse the principles of human-computer interaction, to achieve interactivefunction of the virtual scene of the ancient ruins roaming and sound effects throughVC++and OpenGL, with input devices (keyboard, mouse) can interact with the objects inthe virtual scene.The method achieved preferable the ancient city wall of the Ming Dynasty(Changle Gate section) and virtual palace complex digital display and interaction in thispaper,. The method’s effectiveness and feasibility has been proved fully, and provided areference for the ancient ruins of digital protection.
