SF6has excellent arc extinguishing performance and good electrical insulationperformance. It is a new generation of super high voltage insulation materials better than airand oil.Therefore, the SF6equipments have been widely applied in power system.Theleakage of SF6is not easy to be found and can seriously reduce the gas insulation and arcextinguishing capacity, which will bring hidden trouble to the operation of powerequipment. SF6produces toxic decomposition products in high voltage arc, these products’leakage will cause harm to personal safety. Early detection for SF6leakage is mainly applysoap water method and detecting with the holding device.This is mainly short distancedetection,which has low detection efficiency and potentially dangerous to the personnel.Based on the analyzing of the principle and technique of the current SF6leakagedetection, this paper explored the application of SF6laser infrared imaging in the leakagedetection field. This paper analyzes the shortcomings of traditional detection technologyand establishes the main research contents as well as the key technology needed to besolved in this paper. For this scheme,this paper gives the design and implementation ofhardware and software of SF6leak detection system. At the same time, this paper combinesthe advantages of the embedded system and establishes the SF6leakage detection system byusing the EPCS-8290Embedded System. And then gives the actual effect of system throughthe experiment.At last, this paper presents the factors need to be considered in the practicalapplication and the methods for improving and perfecting the system, which providing thebase for actual application of this system.The SF6gas leakage detection system designed in this paper can quickly, efficientlydetect whether there is SF6gas leakage and the location of gas leakage point. Comparedwith the foreign system, the cost is lower. The cost of this system is about270000RMB.After packaging, the total expense is around300000RMB. This system can beencapsulated as shoulder-fired or portable equipment.
