The emerging multimedia social networks (MSN) services and tools have provideda convenient platform on which the digital content, such as electronic books, digitalimages, audios and videos can be shared between users. The multimedia socialnetwork platforms have significantly improved and enriched consumers’ experienceson multimedia digital contents, and further spurred the misuse and maliciousdissemination of digital content (rights) among users. Thus, Digital RightsManagement (DRM) issue is becoming more prominent. The theories and methods forsecurity, trustworthiness, controllability of DRM systems available do not meet theneeds of the novel Internet application, which is an urgent problem to solve. Thepaper focuses on secure dissemination of the digital contents (rights) for multimediasocial networks.(1) An approach to finding digital rights potential propagation paths is proposed formultimedia social networks. Firstly, a formal analysis for the potential paths ispresented primarily based on rough set, and the trust value of the potential paths ismeasured in combination with the trust assessment methods. Secondly, we proposedthe related algorithms for finding potential paths and credible potential paths betweenany two nodes in MSN. Finally, we conducted a series of the simulation experimentsbased on a social network analytic tool-UCINET, as to verify the effectiveness andefficiency of the algorithms.(2) An approach to assessing digital rights propagation risks is proposed for MSN.Based on traditional risk evaluation methods and introduced risk impact factors suchas trust risk and user demands, this article adopts both quantitative and qualitativeapproaches to evaluate transmission risks of copyrighted digital contents among MSNusers. Specifically, Value at Risk, a risk calculation method widely used in thefinancial field, as a quantitative approach, is employed. While expert scoring, as a qualitative approach, is used to evaluate non-quantifiable factors. Finally, theeffectiveness of the risk evaluation method proposed in this article is verified bysimulation experiment. The relationships of risk loss with average rate of riskoccurrence and risk preference of content providers are revealed. The paper has important significance on application theory of foundations inrealizing the digital rights legal sharing and controllable dissemination for MultimediaSocial Network, while it has great application prospects and values on multimediaplatform establishment as well as healthy and benign industry progress.
