Cloud Computing Applications In The Digital Library

At the end of2009, the “cloud computing and Library Meeting” was held in Shanghaiby the Library Academic Committee of China, which marks the cloud computing has beenformally involved in the list of digital library. With the development and popularity ofInternet technology, it is obvious that digital information gradually penetrated into everycorner of our society, making the information we receive rich and colorful. Meanwhile, asdigital libraries emerges, video, voice, documents and other information are mixed andunified with planning and management. In such an information age, old dissemination ofinformation and traditional libraries are not enough and they are on the road to be replaced.Thus, to build convenience and information-rich digital libraries is rather urgent. As aresult, the root of digital library sprouts and grows. IT innovation has lead to the birth ofcould computing and changed the model of information service. Under this background,cloud service model based on distributed computing will also bring some new changes inthis area. Cloud computing will fully meet the needs of future digital libraries and becomesthe outstanding flash point of it.Domestic digital libraries still has a big gap with those abroad. The founder of cloudcomputing, Google, has also put forward some concepts computer which can be realizedonline, for instance, the mode of International applications, distributed processing, parallelprocessing and grid computing. Could computing is a computing model which major taskslies in the computing pool and consumers can ask for access of information services freely.“Cloud” is a mixture of evolution. The use of cloud computing mode as the foundation andapplication platform of digital library and for data sharing will greatly change the servicesof the libraries. Hence it can be seen that it is the most reliable solution with the bestexpansibility. “Cloud” has brought us convenience but also security risks. Therefore, we mustconsider what we can do to deal with the problems which may occur.concept, architecture and service levels are introduced through some features ofdigital library as well as the possibilities and necessities of cloud computing for usage.Here scientific demonstration of solutions is also involved.
