With the continuous developments of broadband wireless technology, WiMAX wirelessnetwork is more and more widely applied, and gets great importance by professionals. As akind of new broadband wireless access technology, WiMAX uses more advancedtechnologies, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing, orthogonal frequencydivision multiple access, adaptive antenna system and multiple input multiple outputtechnology. Comparing with Wi-Fi technology and3G communication network technology,WiMAX has many advantages, for example, the bandwidth utilization efficiency is higher, thecoverage of base stations is wider, and the data transmission speed is higher. Also, WiMAXenhances the reliability through automatic repeat request mechanism in data link layer, andensures data security by QoS mechanism. Besides, uploading and downloading bandwidth ofWiMAX can be assigned flexibly for each user. That’s why the devices with WiMAX chipsare also gradually increasing, such as mobile phone, USB and WiMAX and Wi-Fi router. Forthese WiMAX devices, same as other wireless devices, the embedded chips use differentprocessing design and show different characteristics and individual differences in differenttemperature and frequency. Due to these and other reasons, products should completecalibration test by ATE software.Taking WiMAX mobile phone project as an example, here this paper describes how torealize the ATE calibration software. Firstly, we shortly introduce the background, currentsituation, application prospect and other related contents. Secondly, we explain the necessityand common test options, give two kinds of ATE calibration test solution about the WiMAXproducts, clarify the difference on the overall design, illustrate the methods and processes ofATE calibration, and also describe the development environment. Then we elaborated therealizing process in detail including architecture design of ATE calibration software, the interface design with host driver, API interface design provided to upper layer application, themethod of how to control WiMAX SoC, common instruction controlling process and thecalibration algorithm. The received signal strength indication algorithms include thresholdselection, calibration point selection, Offset calibration, Final calibration and verification,while the transmission power algorithms include linear calibration, temperature compensation,IQ DC Offset calibration, Offset calibration, polynomial calibration, final calibration andverification. Others such as LNA calibration, BER test, PER test and the method to save theparameters are also included. Thirdly, we test software functionalities mainly using TestAppprogram and performance using Agilent software. Finally, the paper summarizes the ATEcalibration software and gives proposals for the next development.
