From1936to1942,Jiang Yin-en worked in Tianjin、Shanghai、Hongkong andGuilin “Ta Kung Pao”, successively as a journalist、editor and editorial director. Fromthe next half year of1942, he transformed from a journalist to a journalisticeducator,teaching journalism in Yenching University,Peking University and RenminUniversity of China successively.In Chinese modern history of journalism, Jiang wasa rare predecessor of the press,who majored in Journalism and be known as ajournalist,editor and journalistic educator. Nowadays,his experience in the press andhis journalistic education thought are still inspiring. Because of the speciality of thetime he lived in, research on Jiang Yin-en is difficulty but valuable.This paper represents his journalistic practice and education thought from threeaspects. Firstly,it introduces his life background,analyses his feeing of the journalismthrough his practice and the impact of Zhang Jiluan,and the necessity of his careertransitions,to reveal how his education thought formed. Secendly,it represents andsummarizes his journalistic education thought,which contains five points: intellectualand mental education are the nature of news education; news institutions andeducational institutions should be mutually beneficial cooperation,and balance rightand duty,such as encouraging the interns,learning experience of the Missouri; practiceis as important as theory,such as department of journalism establishing practicingplatforms for profit,news education for a five-year system,students being encouragedto carry out journalistic activities independently; journalistic educators are notmasters,such as professors being between the theoretical organ and the experimentalorgan,teaching being an art,setting up news research institutes for further study; medialiteracy should be throughout the journalistic education,and value news English aswell. Finally,it analyses the historical progress,limitation and the contemporarysignificance of Jiang’s journalistic education thought and practice, so as to evaluatehis value comprehensively.The topic itself of this paper is an innovation.There is almost no specialized studyof Jiang Yin-en’s journalistic education thought and practice at home and abroad.Thispaper restores the history,and combines with the era in which he lived,to reveal therealistic meaning through the study of Jiang’s practice and thought,in order todetermining his position in Chinese modern history of journalism.
