Contrast Of Rhetoric Characteristic Between Chinese And English Sports News Language

With the rapid development of social economy, people’s spiritual and cultural life have become increasingly richer. Sports news has also attracted more and more attention. As an intersection of journalism and sports undertaking, sports news reports should not only reflect the physical truth objectivly and accurately but also use a lot of figures to make express vivid and have unique rhetoric characteristic.Because of different cultural background between China and West, it differs in the rhetoric of sports news reports.This task is based on the comprehensive newspapers with large circulation and authoritative sports web sites. It chooses China Sports Daily, Sina Sports, Xinhuanet and Yahoo sports as the corpus source. Besides, it uses the method of corpus statistics, comparison and comprehensive analysis to make sampling analysis of sports news. From the three levels of rhetoric speech, writing and style, this paper analyses the commonness and differences between Chinese and English sports news rhetoric characteristic. What’s more, it explores the deep reason behind it.English and Chinese belong to different language families. English is a member of Indo-european and Chinese belongs to Sino-tibetan. They have huge differences in pronunciation; vocabulary and syntactic structure. All of the rhetorical structures are built on the basis of the specific language material. As a result, although Chinese and English rhetorical structures have a variety of similarities, the same rhetorical structure in different language patterns will have obvious differences.The difference of figures of speech is the most obvious in the figures of speech, style and representation style. Language is the projection of culture. The differences of rhetoric features mainly attribute to the different way of thinking and cultural customs. Besides, the language itself differs from each other. Studying the phenomenon of the rhetoric has important reference value. Meanwhile, it does help to the writing, reading and appreciation of the sports news.
