Inheritance And Innovation:Comparative Study On Chinese And English Sports Illustrated

The history of world periodicals have undergone over300years, the UnitedStates became powerful in media, especially in the magazine industry in sucha long history. The American famous comprehensive sports journals “SportsIllustrated” has nearly60years history and experience. It has over3millionsubscribers and it is also currently the world’s largest circulation sportsmagazine. Sports Illustrated together with Time, People and Fortune becomethe most famous magazine owned by media giant Time Warner. Sports Illustratedwas the first magazine with circulation over one million to win the NationalMagazine Award for General Excellence twice.In2006,the world famous Sports Illustrated published Chinese SportsIllustrated through copyright exchange. After few years developing, ChineseSports Illustrated not only become competitive in the market but also becomeone of the most influential comprehensive sports journals. Chinese SportsIllustrated quickly became competitive and developed well in China as wellas its inheritance and innovation deserve focusing and studying.In this paper, using the method of literature, content analysis, case studymethod, mathematical statistics methods, comparative analysis method andtaking the Sports Illustrated as the research object. Study the Chinese andEnglish Sports Illustrated which published in2012,comparing and analyzingthe content, column, cover, layout and picture to find out how the ChineseSports Illustrated inherit and innovate compare with the English SportsIllustrated, to find out its features of news reports.This paper is divided into three parts: the development history of SportsIllustrated, the comparison of report forms of the Chinese and English SportsIllustrated, the inheritance and innovation from the English SportsIllustrated. As for the first part, it summarizes the developing history ofthe Chinese and English Sports Illustrated. The second part is comparing thereport forms of Chinese and English Sports Illustrated, including the content,column, cover and layout. The third part is discussing how the Chinese SportsIllustrated inherit and innovate the derivatives compare with the EnglishSports Illustrated.
