As the natural barrier of southwestern China, Tibet area plays an important role in strategic position. Due to the historical issues between China and its neighboring country Y, territorial disputes is a problem. The army of Y country is always attempting to encroach the territory of our country, and aggresses the national boundaries, so the patrol duty becomes a heavy task. The features of border region, such as complex terrain, harsh natural conditions and poor infrastructure, which cause the weak mobility of army and the large gap of border control, the management and control of border area is not effectiveness and real-time. Monitoring technology which has a strong adaptive ability, low energy consumption, high safety performance and low cost is needed. ZigBee can meet the above requirements. This article focuses on research of the border monitoring system based on ZigBee networking technology, The main research include the following three points:1. Briefing the international development status and in the military field of wireless sensor network, analyzed the application sub-layer of the IEEE802.15.4standard and ZigBee technology standards, focuses on the ZigBee network networking process.2. According to the actual needs of the control of the border, designed the system of ZigBee-based border control, selected the type of sensor nodes and network topology, analyzed security vulnerabilities that may exist and selected some countermeasures of security. Energy management, energy conservation mechanisms and wake-up and sleep mechanisms are described. Meanwhile, selected several control programs for the emergency situations that may occur in the border area monitoring area.3. Simulated the monitoring system of border areas with OPNET. Simulation results shows that the control system based on ZigBee technology in border areas has good fault tolerance, scalability, and self-organizing capacity, which Laid a solid foundation for the future.
