IPTV Set-Top Box Streaming Media Player Design And Implementation

With the rapid development of network access technology, the bitrate and servicequality of broadband data access have been improved drastically. The number ofsubscribers for brand band service was boomed in these years, and all network operatorshave treated the broadband access as their core business. The video service is no longermonopoly of broadcasting operators, IPTV which takes advantage of the interaction andflexibility of broadband has been regarded as core service for broadband operators. Withthe publication of national triple-play policy, which breaks the monopoly on thetraditional services of broadcasting operators and telecom operators, it provides anexcellent opportunity for the IPTV industry with provisions of encouraging Bi-directioninvolving and competition.This theis is based on the research and development of IPTV smart STB. Its maintopic is the design and implement of streaming media player, which is the core functionof IPTV smart STB. The main topics are listed as below:1. The development, standardization and technical characteristics of IPTV system areintroduced. It also summarizes the shortcomings of traditional IPTV products andintroduces the new architecture of IPTV smart STB. The system solution and principalmodules of this new product are then described.2. The design and implementing of streaming media player are emphasized, whichcontains the data format of streaming media, transfer protocol of media streaming andimplementing of this media player on smart box. The interaction between streamingmedia player and other modules such as browser, video decoder is also discussed.3. The testing and verification on the design of IPTV smart box are launched basing onIPTV Smart STB testing specification of China Telecom, which include drawing up testplan, writing test cases, setting up test environment, launching test and summerizing thetest result.4. The incomplete work of this project is described at last section. It also givesconclusion about the product direction of future IPTV product and improvement ofstreaming media player.
