Great changes have taken place in communication environment in the21st century in which network technology develops by leaps and bounds with deepening political democratization, media marketization and opening public information. Hot network events happen frequently in this situation, even some personal events can be developed into hot event with the spreading of internet which attracts national attention. These hot issues was born in the soil of internet, which involve essential social problems. Some events may lead to spontaneous behaviors and conflicts, and even endanger the credibility of governments and mainstream media. The broadcasting of hot network events brakes the boundary of interpersonal communication, organizational communication, group communication and mass communication from the angle of communication.As a typical case,"Guo Meimei event" was selected for its long time and wide scope which sparked query of the credibility in government and mainstream media. For the lack of Journalistic professionalism spirit,mainstream media failed to guide public opinions effectively at the beginning which lead to the wide expanding of the events. The swinging and vague attitude of mainstream media sparked further persistent quest for the truth. Admittedly, journalism professionalism has its own predicaments and difficulties in the new communication environment,and so is the report of hot network events. My essay mainly focuses on hot network events reports of traditional media and network media in new media environment. Based on the analysis of the problems existing in report, the essay will deepen the understanding of propagation law in hot network events and foresee the necessity of journalistic professionalism so that the role of media in hot network events can be further defined.
