A Critical Analysis Of The Current Situation, Issues, And Development Of Obituary Report In China

The obituary report known as death report is a kind of news style focusing on reporting the deceased people. With its rich content, strong atmosphere of vivid story and humanity, obituary report is very welcome and popular in western countries undertaking a responsibility of mourning the dead and encouraging the living. Whereas, affected by complicated factors such as traditional culture and political background, obituary report is not fully accepted in China. Its features and values have been devaluated to a large extent, which means the obituary report in China is still at a preliminary developing stage.The main purpose of this thesis is to explore the history and current situation of obituary report development in China emphasizing on outlining the features of obituary report in we-media. A critical analysis of the existing problems including the overall low level of development; lacking variety of items; over political, entertainment and similar in celebrity obituary reports has been demonstrated in this paper. To deal with these problems, several constructive suggestions have been put forward from various perspectives, which are firstly setting up correct human-centered report philosophy; secondly enriching report styles and enhancing narration; thirdly upgrading obituary reporters’ professional skills. In the last part of this thesis, a prospect has been made to promote a far-reaching, healthy and diversified development of China’s obituary report.
