Digitalisation is a process in which digital technologies (based on binary numeral system) are being applied more and more thoroughly. Nowadays, this process has a profound impact on a large quantity of television media and has changed the TV industry radically. Living in such an era of change, we need to rethink the trend of digitalisation and the process of television’s digitalisation, to figure out what kind of influence it has on the TV industry, to find the feasible ways of reform and innovation for Chinese television organizations.Focusing on the traditional form of television, this thesis is trying to find out the major transformations of this kind of media in digital era and seeking out how to establish competitive advantages for them. Firstly, it explains the definitions related to digitalization and tries to explore a comprehensive understanding of ’digitalisation of television’; secondly, it lists the main effects of digitalization on different parts of the TV industry, thirdly, based on the case study of two television companies inside and outside China, it reveals the lessons that we learned from the changes happened within these two media; Finally, it concludes with the major suggestions for the television media in China.
