Pmotion of public library in our country is still in the initial stage. The promotion of library in academia needs more research. The better understanding of the content and ch aracteristic, as well as the domestic and international development status of library prom otion will contribute to fully discussion and conclusion of the public library’s promotion work. It helps us to identify problems of marketing of public library and draw lesson from the successful practice. And then the library could provide enhanced function and high-quality service. That is the purpose of this paper.By means of document inquisition and questionnaire, together with related theory o f Marketing, this article investigates and studies the promotion of public libraries at diffe rent levels. First this article reviews related domestic researches regarding the object, ba ckground, method, content, etc. Then it integrates with the property of public library and analyses the necessity of public library’s promotion work. Started from this basis we giv e a questionnaire to domestic public libraries of different types, focusing on resource all ocation, conceptual cognition, execution, design and restriction of library promotion, a nd brand building of the library. According to the statistical and analytical data we could make advices to current promotion work of domestic public library. In last part, regardin g the situation, we take suggest some advice and attitude to marketing of public library, such as the allocation of resource, the widespread and cultivation of marketing concept, the business of public library marketing,the summarize and analysis of the public library marketing.Study and practice of library promotion have broad prospects. It has a great practica1significance to the development of domestic public library. As an important part of serv ice transformation and upgrade, it is also an important way for the public library to show its worth.
