PXI comprehensive test instrument is a major breakthrough of the traditionalinstrument. It uses advanced bus technology to combine single traditional instrumentand rich resources of the computer together to improve the instrument modularity,software, flexibility and degree of intelligent. The project combines development statusat home and a large number of my company communications products testingrequirements, and designed based on PXI bus technology of comprehensive testinstrument. Computer resources are used in the instrument which realizes my companywired communication equipment automatic test. PXI comprehensive test instrumentsaves a lot of human resources and the cost of the instrument. This technology to enterthe high-end fields lays the basal theoretical.This paper studies the development present situation and the research significanceof the PXI comprehensive tester at home and abroad, and introduces designrequirements, design theory and main technical index of the comprehensive testinstrument. It discusses the comprehensive test instrument hardware/software designand implementation method. The project uses a field programmable gate array, theARM9central processing unit and the interface circuit. This paper realizes quickprocessing of testing command/data, using object-oriented testing instrument PCIexpansion bus (PXI bus), which realizes the test unit and computer data high speedtransmission to adapt to the powerful data processing ability of computer.This paper uses the PXI hardware and software standard and proposes PXI businterface solutions which bases on the combionation of PCI interface chip and FPGA. Itstudies PCI9054chip to complete the PCI bus agreement conversion, and uses FPGA tocomplete local bus trigger bus, star bus and a clock control. The test interface circuituses company mature interface circuit. It realizes the seamless connection andcommunication equipment interface. Using Cadence tool realizes PXI board schematicdiagram, PCB. Using ISE and Keil programming tools realizes FPGA program andCPU program. Using LabVIEW tools achieves a simple and beautiful Computer software interface. Finally, it uses third party debugging tools, special circuit debuggingand testing equipment to debugg various circuit, and it analysises the problems in theprocess of debugging.Testing and user experiments show that this instrument has realized test functionsof analog port, digital port, V.24port, V.35port, E1port, Ethernet port. Those ports arein the SWCs, INCs, Communication Controller, Optical Equipments, K/RS232converter, V.35interface converters and other equipments. The test results are reliable.Indicators and functions of the instrument have met customers’ requirement.
