Student management is an essential part in the management of higher educationinstitutions. As the enrollment of these institutions has expanded in recent years, thesizes and student numbers of these schools are growing and more and more studentinformation is added to the daily management. To management the increasing studentinformation in the traditional manual way consumes both time and effort, and themanagement quality and efficiency are not secured. Combined with the actual workexperience of the author, this paper develops a student information management systemintended for use in daily student management. This student information management system is developed on the basis of thecurrently popular B/S structure. The system is divided into an administrator module, ateacher module and a student module based on the user’s role. The administratormodule is mainly responsible for the management of the information about teachers, students, majors and classes; the teacher module provides services for the dailymanagement of counselors and is capable of such functions as students’ personalinformation management, score inquiry, teachers’ evaluation inquiry, and daily notice orannouncement view. The whole system is functional and practical with elegant interfaceand operation that fits people’s common habits. The design of the whole system includes analysis in the requirements phase, preliminary module design, detailed code design, and testing. The entire design processis carried out under the guidance of software engineering theory and involves a varietyof software development techniques. In order to facilitate the future upgrade andmaintenance of the system, every module is kept independent, the respective internalfunction of the modules is made single, and the connections between the modules areminimized when the designer divides the system modules. After the design stage, thesystem is put into a comprehensive test from functional and performance aspects andthe test results meet the requirements raised in the requirements phase.
