"Shanzhai" is no longer a new concept, and it has been several years since itsemergence. From the earliest "copycat telephone", to "copycat costume","copycatfood","copycat car" and many other copycat phenomena, the speed of and the scale ofits development really shocks us. Nowadays, the phenomenon of "Shanzhai", whosepowerful influences have extended to people’s daily life and culture, is no longer apeculiar product from economic development, and has evolved into a society culturephenomenon. What’s more, variety copycat films and TV shows have been emerged andperformed under the impact of copycat culture. That is how the great social influence ofcopycat culture strongly sweeps the society, which has caused extensive attention fromall walks of life. Opinions upon this subculture concept have been divided into severalgroups, and debating among different people has never faded away.In this paper, with the copycat culture as a point of penetration of this research, Ihave carefully studied the representation and connotations of copycat culture, deeplyexplored the cause of its development, and have critically analyzed the social positiveand negative impact of copycat culture. On this basis, I have focused more on varietyTV shows that are strongly linked to daily life and have carried on the overall review ofits development process. At the same time, I also have classified the copycat TV varietyshows systematically, and studied the deep reasons of the flooding of the copycat TVvariety shows; and have developed contrastive analysis about individual cases and thetransformation process. Moreover, I have carried out a profound analysis of its epidemictrend and social psychological factors, which will show the phenomenon of the copycatTV variety clearly and roundly in front of us. Finally, the paper draws me to think moreabout the copycat TV variety show, to explore a sustainable development road of TVshows with much creativity, and to be committed to providing new ways of thinking tofilm creators.
