With the development of social economy, ecological destruction and environmental pollution problems have become increasingly severe. However, China has been applying the traditional monitoring methods dominated by manual sampling laboratory analysis, so data sharing, online monitoring and remote control may not be realized. Therefore, the pace of comprehensive pollution remediation in China has been influenced and restricted and environmental emergencies and corporate excess emissions and other environmental issues can not be solved. Only by means of information-based methods, communications network and information technology can a set of scientific and perfect online monitoring system for pollution sources be established to fully reflect the environmental conditions and trends and further improve the supervision and management for pollution sources.Based on the working principle of the online monitoring for pollution sources, B/S structure has been applied to establish the system according to the order of the waterfall model of software development. On the basis of systematic analysis for the related business of the online monitoring system, the combined mechanism of online monitoring data and data validation audit has been put forward innovatively. And the overall system design of the online monitoring system and the design of the various functional modules and database are also introduced in detail in this paper, and the implementation and testing of the system are also described at last.The performance of the online monitoring system for pollution sources is impressive after nearly one year of application. To be emphasized, the environmental management model has undergone great changes from the original backward management model based on traditional manual data monitoring to the advanced management model based on online data monitoring.In addition, pollution discharge of the key pollution sources can be known timely, which will play an important role in enhancing response for the pollution sources, processing and disposing pollution and leadership decision-making.
