In this paper OPPC is introduced, and the concept of technical characteristics, structure and installation method are described in detail. The OPPC、OPGW and ADSS are widely used in special power cable. The advantages and disadvantages of OPPC and OPGW are compared. OPGW currently is used in domestic110kV1000kV transmission lines, it has mature technology; ADSS is mainly used for transmission towers for110kV and below grade line, ADSS is used for the old line optical fiber communication construction, it can quickly provide the cable channel. OPPC has the dual function of the overhead power phase lines and communication capabilities, and Fibre Channel can be provided for automated management of low-voltage transmission lines, urban network and rural power, in a certain field OPPC can be understood as ADSS.On the basis of OPPC, a reliable, high-quality optical cable channel is put forward in this paper, and the localization of the OPPC fiber optic cable and high insulation of splice devices are solved, increasing the OPPC optic cable operational reliability. Then we introduce the domestic and international terminal splice device, and do research, application and testing on OPPC and the new OPPC terminal splicing device combined with the actual35kV line. A new design in the new terminal splicing device is presented in this paper, which makes once welding of OPPC and the introduction cable only in the lower case, thus improving the security and reliability of the system and saving the welding time.After that, the optical transmission performance, mechanical properties, electrical properties, and environmental characteristics of OPPC are studied and tested to provide a strong technical basis. The OPPC has a good performance compared with OPGW cables by optical transmission performance comparison tests in the day-to-day work temperature, carrier state, carrying a high-pressure situation, the stress-strain tests, wind-induced vibration, dancing tests and sheave tests.Finally, the running OPPC and the new terminal splicing device are tested combined with the actual35kV line. We detect the overall performance of fiber optic cable operation and the transmission loss case of the optical fiber, design and complete tests of the new splicing device, and obtain satisfactory test results, providing a meaningful reference for the practical application of OPPC.
