Overheating is a main cause of economic losses in electrical power systems, especially in cables and switches accidents. To ensure safety of electrical power systems, various of temperature sensors and temperature monitor systems have been developed among which temperature sensor using optic-fiber as sensory unit is the mainstream model. But until now, there is no optic-fiber temperature monitor system suitable for cable temperature monitor.In this article, the author summarizes the theory, structure, variety and characteristic of optic-fiber temperature sensor; analyses several kinds of typical optic-fiber temp-sensor; concludes the principle and characteristic of present traditional optic-fiber temp-sensor; represents limits of traditional optic-fiber temp-senor. Above all, the author raises a new cable temp-monitor system used in electrical power cable connectors monitoring. This new temp-monitor system uses transmission-type optic-fiber temp-sensor as core technology, combined with cable monitoring and wireless monitoring, comprised of hardware and software, totally together to ensure electrical power system safety. |
