The Study Of Television Media Coverage Of Major Public Events

In recent years, the study of major public events reported become a high-proifleissues. During the WenChuan earthquake, the sudden public incidents report led manydiscussions by China’s television media. However, in our social life，what thetelevision media need to face are not only the similar sudden public events likeearthquake, but also some public events which need to make plan and predict.In general, the social influence of important major public is enormous andlong-lasting, and it will be a corresponding increase under such a great extent with thecontinuous development of the media, no matter predictable and non-predictable, bothof them will have dramatic social effects, so, the study of major public events reportedis necessary.As the wide inlfuence of traditional media, television media is still at the coreposition of China’s major public events reported currently. But due to the developmentof society, the media reports are changing, especially for the public reported since2008，it showed the propagation increased, reaching a wider, longer social effects.Therefore this article aim to explore the current status of television media coverage ofmajor public events, which through the summarizing of process of television mediareport of public events, and research and analysis of taking example reports on majorpublic events in contemporary.Our society is in transition, this period will also increase social problems, andhow to report the major public events in more complex social environment and mediaenvironment is studied in this paper.This paper selected some important major public events, Through the thosemajor public events, choosing the more representative of mainstream television mediaCCTV column reported for analysis. These events on behalf of the public emergency，global public events, the hot public events, as well as political public events, whichfrom a different perspective to study television media coverage of major public events.From the analysis of above four major public events with quantity, content,method and TV language including television commentary and TV screen，we can seethat China’s television media coverage of major public events has made great progress,but there are still major public events reported one-sided，which too much emphasison major public event reports of "agenda-setting" but ignored the dissemination ofinformation, and there are still problems of irrational behavior during the reported. Inthe meantime competitive environment faced by the television media is increasinglyiferce，the television media and traditional media are facing the strong impact by thenew media, and a major public event is a broad platform to show the strength andcompetitiveness. So how exactly we can seize the opportunities of every major publicevents reported in order to provide a more comprehensive, three-dimensional,outstanding major public event reports for the audience, and accordingly to enhancethe social inlfuence of television media, practice the television media societyresponsibility, and the ideological construction of a virtuous interaction, are theproblems that the paper will to explore.
