National policies on media in China have always given top priority to major event reporting. As the socialist modernization and press reform in China deepen, major event reporting has played an increasingly bigger role in TV news report and become the core competence in the circle. As a mainstream media, major publicity channel and throat of the Party and the government, TV report on major events serves as the most important bridge between the resources and the audience. At present, the advantages of visibility and image-based have made TV media more and more crucial in major event reporting.However, the demanding requirements for political correctness and seriousness of major event reporting lead to dull content, uniformed technique for expression, and less popularity, which make reform and innovation a pressing task. Research on the rules, methodologies, and feasibility become a very challenging chapter in both theoretical study and practice for the media. Scientific comprehension of the natures and rules will be very helpful for all media practitioners to better their performance.As a local mainstream (?)edia, the Informational Center of Jiangsu Provincial TV and Radio Group has tried to innovate its coverage on major news reporting and has won the recognition of leaders, audience, and people from the same circle. Its experience has been used as reference in the literature review of relevant researches. This thesis have analyzed the concept, features, categorization and role of major event reporting, stated the background for innovation and reform, introduced some successful cases of the Information Center of Jiangsu TV and Radio Group, and finally concluded with suggestions on the building up of a supporting system for media reform, with a view to contributing to the study on reform and innovation in major event reporting as guidance and reference.
