Subjectivity In Television News Program Narrative

Television news program is a kind of typical narration. It is news stories which news propagators and narrators narrative by discourse and it is the reconstruction of recently happened facts. Objectivity is the life of news. It is also recognized as the basic attribute of TV news. The researchers pay more attention to the study of news objectivity, but subjectivity in news narration is less involved. This paper argues that subjectivity is the basic attribute of news narration, and TV news is the reconstruction of news facts by narrator. TV news can not be avoided the subjective tendency. Subjectivity and objectivity is the two sides of the TV news narration.The research on subjectivity in TV news narration in this paper is from two aspects: construction of text and the arrangement of TV news programs. This paper follows the French structuralism narratologists Gannett’s point of view which argues "narration" contains three elements:"story","discourse","narrative". This paper focuses on the three specific dimensions to study subjectivity in the construction of text. For arrangement of TV news programs, it argues news program in the principle of arrangement, rhythm arrangements all show subjective.Chapter1is the summary of subjectivity in TV news narration.It defines the concept of subjectivity and objectivity in TV news narration, and analyzes the performance and status of objectivity.Chapter2, chapter3and Chapter4analyze subjectivity from three elements of news narration:"story","discourse","narrative"."Story" in TV news narration contains "events""person","scene" and other basic elements. The reports reflect the difference of the reporting philosophy, values and even ideology and show subjectivity because of the frame and cover of news narrators. News narrators choose character narrations and emphasize different narrations. It permeates the propagator and the narrator’s point of view, and reflects their positions for news events. TV news comment, especially indirect comments, also reflects subjectivity in the story."Discourse" in the context of TV news communication is language combination that included with subjective intention and value form. It shows subjectivity in picture language. auditory language, subtitles."Narrative" in the TV news narration, is one of the most important connotations in narratology is practice and specific action which narrators generate discourse. It is the expression of the news value and significance by the narrators. It shows subjectivity in narrator, narrative perspective, narrative time and narrative structure.Chapter5analyzes subjectivity in the arrangement of TV news programs and analyzes single TV news how to string into TV news program from the principle of arrangement, layout pattern, headline arrangement and other aspects.This paper concludes with a summary of reasons of subjectivity in TV news narration and analyzes the significance of subjectivity in TV news narration. Because rights permeate into medium and medium has its own right, TV news narration presents subjectivity. At the same time it is due to the presence of subjectivity, TV news programs can be developed its own style and characteristics of news narration.
