With the continuous growth of power technology, the constant increasing of operationstability requirement of generator excitation system and the uninterrupted improvement ofexcitation detection level, development and research of new excitation detection system hasstrong practical significance, which is fully functional, of high reliability, easy to operate, carryand maintain. The excitation detection system is based on the modern computer technology, the virtualinstrument technology and detection technology. The electrical parameters can be collected, analyses, handled and displayed by the excitation detection system, so as to ensure the stable andreliable operation of synchronous generator excitation system. The subject of this thesis is development and research of excitation detection system basedon virtual instrument, on the basis of theoretical and experiment analysis. The thesis also haselaborated on hardware and software design of the excitation detection system based on virtualinstrument. In terms of the hardware design, the thesis elaborated the conditioning circuit designof the analog and digital signal, the selection and configuration of DAQ card. In terms of thesoftware design, the thesis elaborated the vi(virtual instrument) program and its front panel byLabVIEW, including the module of data acquisition, storage, display, playback, measuring andprint and the module of panel switching. Finally, the thesis elaborated the combinationtechnology of MATLAB and LabVIEW to calculate the control parameters and create the bodediagram. Eventually, the way of the signal test verified the propriety of the excitation detectionsystem and achieved the intended purpose of the development and research.
