Indian Mainstream English-language Media To Shape The Image Of China

As China’s neighboring country and an influential nation in Southern Asia,India occupies animportant position in China’s foreign relations as China is also one important link in India’sforeign relations.In the morden information society, media plays an important role in theinternational connection.For most Indians, media is the main way for them to learn about china.InIndia,English media can be the master because of its great influence to the hole society.It also hasmore influence on the public opinions about political and diplomatic affairs. Besides,the Englishmedia often makes report agenda for other language medias.And the most representive opinionsabout China normally comes from the English media.So the study of the China-related reporting inthe Indian mainstream media is of great significance to understand the views of the mainstreammedia and society towards China in India.The Indian Times is one of the most influencal newspapers in India.And it was always calledthe most greatest indian newspaper.This thesis takes “The India Times”as the object of study,selects its website reports related to China from January2011to Decembei2011as samples.Andthen the author takes some analysis on these samples frome several angles like reportquantity,the report originates minute and the report tendentious.The findings shows that the Indian Times is not that friendly to china.And the china imagemade by this newspaper is more kind of negative.So this paper analyzed the attidude and methodsof Indian medias reports on China from an interaction of journalists’norms and practices and theinfluence of interest groups.It is further suggested that relatively more objective reports on Chinamight be achieved if more contacts are encouraged to make China’s image better.
