Projection display is a kind of efficent display technology, it has high brightness,high resolution. So it has been widely used. DLP projection technology is more specularefficiency, much higher contrast, much higher reliability than LCD projection, LCOSprojection and display technology. There adventage make it become the mainstreamprojection display technology on the currently market.However, due to light life problem block the way in projection display technologydevelopment.Laser hybrid SSI(Solid StateIllumination) projection system has a longservice life, wide color gamut, environmental protection, rapid switch and highphotosynthetic efficiency characteristics.These characteristics made it become a verypromising new light source projection system, which is beneficial to DLP projectiondisplay technology’s devolopment and the projectot market’s development. As technologyfurther mature, Laser hybrid SSI projector is expected to replace the current super highpressure mercury lamp projector, become the market mainstream.Laser hybrid light source is a kind of technology using laser to emit the phorsphercolor wheel, just a group of laser module can produce very high brightness. As we knownthe green laser light source is expensive and the performance is not stable, using thisdesign can effectively solve it and avoid the three color laser light speckle and coherentproblems.The laser diode array and phorsphor color wheel are the core device of laserhybrid light source.The structure very close to DLP projection system. So it suitDLPprojection system very well.According its technology advantages and characteristics, we puts forward a set oflaser hybrid illumination projection engine design scheme. Projection engine use0.55inches12degrees DMD, physical resolution1024*768, and telecentric optical design,with the most stable DDP2431DLP chip solutions. DDP2431not only stable and reliableand powerful, support most mainstream function, can accept and deal with almost all videoformat.In order to get the best colour effect, we made a series of color correction. Gammacorrection could optimize gray scale, CCA correction could adjust the color coordinatesand Brilliant color function could enhance brightness.They are very useful to optimaize thepicture.This paper analyzes the laser hybrid SSI projectior’s advantages and characteristics, describes the system structure and design ideas. This paper firstly introduces the origin andclassification of projection technology, compares DLP projection technology, CRTprojection technology, LCD projection technology and LCOS projection technologycharacteristics and their advantages and disadvantages. Then this paper also introduces themonolithic DLP projection technology structure and its main components, andemphatically explained the light source types, development and advantages anddisadvantages. And this paper also introduces the optical design, circuit design of the laserhybrid SSI projector and the color performance improvements technology of it in detail.After the prototype projector evaluated, we proposed the subsequent improvement ideas,and prospect the future.
