This dissertation focuses on the design of the laser illumination system for single LCoS chip projection display system. The laser display technology is high color display technology base on trichromatic laser sources illumination system. As an important component of the display system, the illumination system determines the quality of the image on screen, including the brightness and uniformity. Compared to the traditional sources, the laser sources has many advantages, e.g. Expanded color expression, low power loss, long lifetime. It is believed that with its cost reduction, the performance enhance, the volume to reduce, the laser sources will certainly to be the renewal the mainstream sources.In this dissertation, the projection display systems which adopt single LCoS display panels are studied with optical principle and the simulation analysis. Then the design principle of the illumination system which is based on the non-imaging optics is presented in detail. And several optical device models are simulated and analyzed in software Zemax to mast their special property.This topic' s innovation spot lies in:First of all, the uniformity of laser sources via the special fibers: The laser beam via the optical fiber becomes the radiation disorder; the cross sectional area of the laser beam is enlarged by thousand times, the energy uniform distribution of light beam arrives by special optical processing.The next, the trichromatic mixing system with rotating prism: The trichromatic laser sources are synthesized and remixed to red, green, blue laser color stripes, which are irradiating by trundle prism stripe system on the display chip; meanwhile the video signals are carried on the display chip. While the prism is revolving, the light are reflected or refracted, so the trichromatic mixing goal achieves. By the way, the traditional sources (even the LED sources) only can use the color wheel trichromatic mixing system, which is unable to provide a clearer sharp image.The third, the simulation optimization by two optical software: compared with the traditional sources and laser resources, the ray tracing of LED sources is simulated by the software TracePro, optimizing until the optical distribution uniformity of system up to 85%; the ray tracing of laser sources and optical device models are simulated by the optical software Zemax, then connecting them to the whole optical display system--optical modulation system integration design.The main research work includes:In the beginning of the dissertation, the significance and background of this thesis is pointed out; typical kinds of the display technologies are presented including the background, category and the optical structures. In addition, three ways to laser sources instead of traditional sources are introduced.In the second chapter, the design principle of the illumination system which is based on the non-imaging optics is presented in detail.From the third chapter to the fifth chapter, on the base of the research theory above and simulation and analyzes of several optical device models, in which the ray tracing of laser sources simulated by the software Zemax and those of LED by TracePro, the projection display systems which have a single LCoS as display panel and which compare different optical devise for laser and LED illumination sources respectively are proposed in this dissertation. In addition, the design of the CYM (Cyan, Yellow, and Magenta) trichromatic mixing system and driver control circuit for the LCoS display chip is prepared for testing platform.In the sixth chapter, the quality of projection display system is evaluated by the part of evaluation criteria of projector display TV system and the LED sources illumination system. In the seventh chapter, according to the structure size design of laser illuminator system above, the laser illumination in single LCoS chip projection display system platform is placed.Finally, the conclusion of the study in this dissertation is drawn and the research direction is made.
