With development of streaming technology and cloud computing,more and more network clients can broadcast and share media informationwith each other, which is greatly promoted by streaming applicationplatforms. However, the exponential growth of the network users, thecomplexity of the streaming media business caused by three nets fusion,and the limitations of transmission bandwidth, which challenge thestreaming service provider, have big stumbling block to the streamingbusiness development. It is the cloud computing architecture based onstreaming media that can improve and solve the problem, which is the hotpoint in the research field.In this paper, we firstly analysis the related protocol and thesis, suchas Hypertext Transport Protocol, Real-time Streaming Protocol, Real-timeProtocol, and then compare the difference between HTTP streaming andRTSP streaming referred to real time download. After investigation of themainstream streaming servers, we promote the content delivery networktechnical solution forward video-on-demand, which would be theoreticalbasis for research. Considering the advantage of embedded system inpower and procession, we transplant the web server and streaming serveron Virtex-5supported by Xilinx. We also test the server performancethrough LoadRunner, and we conclude that response time of the StreamingSever based on FPGA is3times later than that of the general CPU,but ithas obvious advantages in dealing with the transaction and system stabilityas well as general CPU.Finally, according to the performance results of the streaming mediaserver, we put forward the improvement scheme from the hardware implementation and static caching strategy. We come up with thearchitecture of the CDN forward VOD, which is a further researchdirection.
